A career cluster is a grouping of
occupations based on what they have in common. The
Government and Public Administration cluster has seven
different and exciting pathways that lead to specific
occupations that share lots of similarities.
Career clusters link students to important information as it
relates to their school subjects, their interests, and their
plans for further education and training. A list of common
interests, skills, and knowledge is indicated under each
cluster. These commonalities support the cluster and help
students identify the areas that will lead them to success.
People in the Government and Public
Administration cluster share interests, talents, and the
motivation to learn new skills and knowledge in many of the
following areas. How about you?
People who hold jobs in this cluster are involved in
governance; national security; foreign service; planning;
revenue and taxation; regulation; and management and
administration at the local, state, and federal levels.
Many of their work activities require and involve the
following:
- Having positive attitudes toward work and learning.
- Having the ability to analyze, understand, and problem
solve.
- Knowing how to seek, obtain, maintain, and change
jobs.
- Knowing about your top skills, interests, and work
values.
- Knowing how to evaluate and interpret career
information.

writing.
- Knowing how to work well with others as a team and be
a leader.
- Understanding the relevant safety, health,
environmental, and ethical concerns.
- Understanding budgeting, managing cost-effective
services, and being responsible with finances.
- Obtaining the education, training, and technical skills
that match your specific career goals.
