Where JA Programs Address Ethics



Ourselves - Students are taught to appreciate work and its intrinsic and extrinsic rewards.



Our Families - Students learn that by working together, people can improve the places where they live, work, and play.



Our Community - Students understand why government collects taxes to provide services for the well - being of its citizens. Through a decision - making exercise, they discover how citizens are responsible for the welfare of their communities. They are introduced to quality control.



Our City - The students practice quality control and learn the importance of doing things right.



Our Nation - Students learn appropriate conduct for job interviews and to answer questions honestly and completely. They establish quality control guidelines for a product they assemble. They critically analyze product advertisements to determine whether they are fair and honest.



JA BizTown- Students discuss the rights and responsibilities that accompany the role of being a good community citizen. Following discussions and a game emphasizing these many citizen responsibilities, students read and sign a JA BizTown Citizen Pledge promising to show respect, be responsible and honest, help others, vote, pay taxes, and make good personal and business decisions during their a successful JA BizTown day. 

 

JA Success Skills - Through case studies and personal reflection, students explore their beliefs, values, and ethical principles as they relate to the world of work. Students are taught the importance of being honest when filling out job applications and creating resumes.
 


JA Economics - Students learn about consumer protection laws and the Better Business Bureau. They examine how market and non-market forces (such as discrimination) affect the economy. They study unions, labor legislation, peer review panels, and employee involvement programs. They debate the ethical implications in various business case studies.
 

 

JA Banks in Action – Students learn how bankers make decisions and practice making banking decisions themselves. The most successful bankers are those who create a winning strategy by making ethical decisions to best serve their customers and increase profits by managing the banks assets and liabilities against others competing in the market.
 

 

JA Business Ethics – Students learn to recognize, analyze, and apply basic terminology, theories, and concepts common to the study of ethics. They explore their own ethical values and philosophy, establish ethical priorities, recognize key ethical issues, and learn to evaluate their decision-making process.
 

 

JA Careers with a Purpose – Students examine ethical responsibilities of being an employee and employer. They explore maxims, or rules of conduct, to make career and life decisions.
 

 

Junior Achievement Presents: The NEFE High School Financial Planning Program – Students explore the importance of making wise financial choices. Students explore the role that money plays in achieving personal goals throughout life. They develop planning, goal setting, and thoughtful, ethical decision-making skills that will help them protect themselves from the unexpected financial pitfalls that plague so many adults.
 


JA Company Program - Students evaluate their own ethical standards as they learn about social responsibility. They examine two case studies that deal with ethical business practices. They establish quality control guidelines for the good or service they produce.
